Mumbai: In his police statement, Zeeshan Siddique had pleaded with the cops to probe whether the Bharat Nagar redevelopment project has any connection with his father’s murder. Though the statement has been made part of the chargesheet filed last month, there are no findings related to Siddique’s allegation. In fact, his statement didn’t talk about the involvement of Anmol Bishnoi, who according to the police, is the mastermind.

Siddique claimed that he and his father faced opposition from several quarters for allegedly supporting the slum dwellers, who were to be impacted by the redevelopment. He also named several persons, who according to him, were interested in the redevelopment of slums in Bandra East and West. The slum dwellers had been seeking support from him to fight injustice, said Siddique.

He had urged that the stakeholders in such projects should be probed and pointed out that one of the developers had even abused his father, while addressing the slum dwellers. However, the chargesheet didn’t mention any details regarding Siddique’s charges.

The Mumbai police had last month submitted the chargesheet 26 accused claiming that the murder was conspired by Bishnoi, the brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The cops claimed that Anmol operated with the help of three key members – Shubham Lonkar, Mohmmed Yasin Akhtar and Sujeet Singh. The trio looked after recruitment, providing logistics and arranging funds.

The police have claimed that the conspiracy to eliminate Baba Siddique was hatched solely to gain supremacy in the underworld.
