Madhya Pradesh: Chaos In Rewa Civic Body Meet Over ‘Disrespectful’ Titles (VIDEO) |
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A budget meeting of the Rewa Municipal Corporation descended into chaos as BJP and Congress corporators clashed over the alleged omission of honorific titles from the names of prominent personalities, sources said on Wednesday. During the heated session, corporators from both parties were seen pushing and shoving each other as tempers flared over the issue.
The confrontation, just short of a physical altercation, was captured on video that has gone viral on social media. In Rewa’s civic body, Mayor Ajay Mishra represents Congress, while municipal council chairman Vyanktesh Pandey is from BJP.
Pandey alleged that the budget proposal included installation of statues of renowned figures, including former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, but their names were written ‘disrespectfully’ without the prefix ‘Shri’. He claimed that this omission was unacceptable and demanded an apology from the mayor.
Mayor Mishra dismissed the controversy as a clerical mistake, but the opposition corporators insisted on an apology, leading to an uproar. Amid the commotion, the chairman was forced to adjourn the meeting until Thursday.
Despite the chaos, Mayor Mishra said that the budget includes several public welfare proposals, but alleged that BJP corporators were “incapable” of engaging in constructive discussions. Civil Line police station in-charge Kamlesh Sahu said that no formal complaint had been filed regarding the incident.
