Xiaomi has officially launched the Xiaomi 17 Ultra in India. The smartphone was first introduced in China in December 2025 and is now making its way to the Indian market.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is the company’s top flagship smartphone and focuses heavily on photography. The device brings several high-end features, including a Leica camera system and a powerful new processor.

The main highlight of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is its camera setup. Xiaomi says this is the first smartphone to feature a Leica APO-certified telephoto lens. The phone features a triple rear camera system developed with Leica. The setup includes:

• 50MP 1-inch Light Fusion 1050L main camera
• 50MP Leica ultra-wide camera with 115-degree field of view
• 200MP Samsung HPE periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom

The 200MP periscope lens supports long-range photography and improved colour accuracy. Xiaomi says the APO certification also helps reduce chromatic aberration. The rear camera is capable of recording videos at 8K/30 fps.

For selfies, the phone includes a 50MP front camera.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra features a large 6.9-inch 2K LTPO OLED display with support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. The display also supports 1920Hz PWM dimming and can reach 3,500 nits peak brightness. The screen is protected by Xiaomi Shield Glass 3.0.

The device is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The SoC features two performance cores delivering a peak clock speed of 4.6GHz and six efficiency cores clocked at 3.62GHz. It comes with 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB UFS 4.1 storage. The smartphone runs Android 16 with HyperOS 3.0.

It also has an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and an infrared sensor. For good audio, it also features Hi-Res audio, Stereo speakers, and Dolby Atmos.

Connectivity options include Dual-SIM 5G support, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, GPS, and USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port. It also features Satellite connectivity.

The phone also comes with IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings

Xiaomi 17 Ultra packs a large 6800mAh battery. It also supports 90W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

Price and Availability in India

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is priced at Rs 1,39,999 in India for the 16GB + 512GB variant. However, Xiaomi is offering an early bird price of Rs 1,29,999 between March 13 and March 17, 2026.

The phone will be available in Leica Black, Leica White, and Starry Sky Green colour options.

Xiaomi is also bundling the Leica Imaging Photography Kit, worth Rs 19,999, for free with the smartphone during the launch offer.

The report says about 55 million iPhones were manufactured in India in 2025. This is a major jump from 36 million units produced in 2024. However, global events soon made India even more important for Apple.

Major manufacturing partners such as Foxconn, Pegatron, and Tata Electronics expanded their operations in the country. Over time, these companies started assembling most iPhone models locally.

Google is finally bringing Chrome‘s Gemini side panel to India, New Zealand, and Canada starting today. The move adds support for more than 50 languages, including Hindi, French, and Spanish, which means millions of new users can now access the AI assistant on desktop, iOS, and Chromebook Plus devices without switching their browser language.

The assistant runs on Gemini 3.1 and lives in a side panel so you can keep browsing while asking for help. Need to summarize a dense article? Just ask. Wondering if you can make that recipe vegan? The AI can figure it out. It can even recall pages you visited earlier, which might finally let you close those tabs you have been hoarding for weeks.

Your other Google apps work inside the panel

The panel connects directly to Gmail, Maps, Calendar, and YouTube. That means you can schedule a meeting while reading an event page, pull location details when planning a trip, or ask questions about a YouTube video and get the key points pulled straight from the transcript.

The Gmail hook is particularly handy. You can compose and send emails without ever leaving your current tab. Just tell the panel what you want to say, and Gemini drafts the message. You get to edit before sending, so there is no risk of the AI going rogue with your words.

When I checked Downdetector, it confirmed the same. More than 10,000 complaints were recorded during the outage. Most users reported platform access issues, and most complaints came from the United States.

The PC industry is already feeling the heat

Hsu did try to downplay the threat a little. He described the MacBook Neo as a “content consumption” device, comparing it more to an iPad than a traditional laptop. His argument is that it can’t handle more demanding, compute-intensive tasks, and the 8GB of memory can’t be upgraded.

He might be right about the specs on paper, but the reality is different. Most reviewers are posting glowing reviews of the MacBook Neo, noting that while 8GB of RAM is somewhat disappointing, it doesn’t impact performance in day-to-day usage.

I concur with this opinion. I daily drove the 8GB variant of the M1 MacBook Air for three years and never faced any issues. I only upgraded to the Apple Silicon Pro chips with higher RAM when I got serious about video editing. 

For its target consumer base of students and elders, the MacBook Neo brings more than enough power and performance. 

Timing could not be worse for Windows PC makers

Here’s the part that is worrying for PC makers. The industry is already struggling with a memory shortage driven by AI demand, and memory prices have jumped over 100% quarter over quarter. Asus itself has warned that once its current memory supplies run out, laptop prices will likely go up.

So, while Apple has launched a $599 laptop, Windows PC makers are bracing for price increases. The memory crunch is expected to last until late 2027, when new memory factories finally come online.
