I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Built some great relationships and friendships over the last 4-5 years, notably.”

  • Starlink being used by insurgents in Manipur? Elon Musk responds, says satellite beams are…

Amid claims that Starlink satellite was being used by insurgents in restive Manipur, SpaceX founder Elon Musk has asserted that Starlink satellite beams were turned off over India.

Users spotted a ‘Starlink’ logo on one of the devices seized by the Manipur Police.

Amidst the claims that Starlink satellite was being used by insurgents in restive Manipur, SpaceX founder Elon Musk has asserted that Starlink satellite beams were turned off over India. Musk’s response came after users on X pointed out that a device recently seized by security forces in the ethnic conflict-torn northeastern state, allegedly carried a “Starlink logo”.

Recently, security forces had seized some internet devices along with arms and ammunition during a raid in Keirao Khunou in Manipur’s Imphal East district. The Spear Corps of the Indian Army had shared photos of the items seized on X, and users were quick to note that one of the devices had a “Starlink logo”.

“@Starlink is being used by terrorists. Hope, Elon @elonmusk looks into it and help control misuse of this technology,” an user commented. Responding to the comment, Musk wrote “This is false. Starlink satellite beams are turned off over India.”

Among the items seized from Keirao Khunou were “one internet Satellite Antenna, one internet Satellite Router and 20 meters (approx.) of FTP cables”, according to the Manipur police.

The recovery of the Starlink-like device has also prompted agencies to investigate how the equipment found its way to the strife-torn state, officials had said.

Musk’s Starlink, which provides satellite internet services, does not have a licence to operate in India yet.

More than 250 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic violence between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups in Manipur since May last year.

Notably, Starlink’s military usage is not unheard of as Ukrainian forces have relied heavily on Musk’s satellites to direct aerial and sea drones to strike key Russian targets since the Russia-Ukraine war erupted in early 2022.

  • Uttarakhand to implement UCC from January: CM Dhami

Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Dhami announced on Wednesday, December 18, that the state will implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) from January 2025.

With this, Uttarakhand will become the first Indian state to enforce the UCC.

Dhami, in an X post, called the move “historic” and “a milestone in the direction of strengthening social equality and unity.”

“Taking a historic step towards making Uttarakhand just and equitable, we have decided to implement the Uniform Civil Code from January 2025. Today, in the UIIDB meeting, necessary instructions were given to the officials on this subject. Under the successful leadership of the respected Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, Uttarakhand is rapidly moving towards becoming the first state in the country to implement the ‘Uniform Civil Code’. While on one hand this step will prove to be a milestone in the direction of strengthening social equality and unity, on the other hand, our state will also emerge as a pathfinder for other states,” Dhami’s X post read.

This is not the first time Dhami proposed to implement the UCC in the state. On August 2023, Dhami, while speaking on the theme “Growing Uttarakhand, Rising Uttarakhand” had said that Uttarakhand was witnessing a “demographic change that has to be checked.”

“There should be a uniform law for every citizen in the country. It has been the demand of the people. Uttarakhand is all set to make the beginning. Under the Constitutional provisions, we will implement the UCC in the state within this year,” Dhami had said.

The UCC Bill was passed in the Uttrakhand Assembly in February this year. On March 23, President Droupadi Murmu gave her nod for the implementation.

On June 27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly advocated for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He said that the minorities were being ‘misled’ by the Opposition parties on the issue.

    What is Uniform Civil Code?

UCC in simple terms can be described as ‘one nation, one law’. It is a legal framework that proposes to replace personal laws of different religions regarding marriage, divorce, inheritance or succession and adoption.

It is important to note that, unlike civic and criminal laws which are the same for all citizens, UCC focuses on personal laws as they are governed by various religions.

    BJP’s pursuit of UCC implementation

The BJP has backed the UCC implementation since the party was formed. Late BJP leader and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee called out the Muslim community for its hesitation to embrace UCC. In a Parliament session, Vajpayee stated that with changing times, Islamic countries had amended personal laws, and questioned why could not it happen in India.

“The makers of our Constitution suggested UCC for a purpose. With time, many Islamic nations around the world have amended their personal laws. Yet, India has not found the political space to reason with the minority groups to codify Muslim or Christian Personal laws for the larger well-being of the nation,” he had said.

  • How does AAP’s health benefit scheme differ from PM Modi’s program?

How does AAP’s health benefit scheme differ from PM Modi’s program?

Launched in September 2018 by the Prime Minister, the Ayushman Bharat Yojana aims to cater to 50 crore beneficiaries. It provides a health cover of Rs. 5 lakh to families living below the poverty line.

Sanjeevani Yojana: Ahead of the Delhi assembly elections 2025, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced the launch of the ‘Sanjeevani Yojana‘. The scheme promises to provide free treatment to the elderly in the national capital who are above 60 years of age.

Kejriwal said at a public event, “In old age, one thing troubles everyone: as age increases, numerous diseases affect a person. The biggest worry is how to get treatment. I also know of people who come from good families, but their children do not take care of them. In old age, I have seen elderly people from good families suffering, as if their children had abandoned them. But you don’t have to worry; your son is still alive.”

He continued, “Today, I am going to announce the Sanjeevani Yojana for the elderly of Delhi. Our elders, above 60 years of age, will receive free treatment. We will bring this scheme after the elections and pass it.”

It important to note that the in September this year, the central government included senior citizens aged 70 years or older under the Ayushman Bharat Yojna. Now, elderly individuals in this age group can avail of free treatment worth up to Rs 5 lakh, separate from their families.

How is Arvind Kejriwal’s Sanjeevni Yojna Different from Ayushman Bharat?

    Sanjeevani Scheme:

    • Arvind Kejriwal has launched the Sanjeevani Scheme for senior citizens.
    • Under this scheme, citizens above 60 years of age in the capital will receive free medical treatment.
    • All citizens above the age of 60 in Delhi will get free treatment.
    • According to Kejriwal, the government will bear all the expenses incurred during the treatment.
    • Kejriwal stated that in the coming days, AAP volunteers will start door-to-door registration.
    • The Sanjeevani Scheme will benefit people from all income groups, meaning there will be no income-based eligibility criteria.

Top benefits of Ayushman Card (PMJAY) scheme

Here are the top 10 primary benefits of the PMJAY scheme for the vulnerable sections of society.

Healthcare cover of Rs. 5 lakh per family

Launched in September 2018 by the Prime Minister, the Ayushman Bharat Yojana aims to cater to 50 crore beneficiaries. It provides a health cover of Rs. 5 lakh to families living below the poverty line.

All families listed in the SECC database to be covered

Beneficiaries for the scheme are picked up from the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) of 2011. These ten crore beneficiary families comprise eight crore families from the rural areas and two crore families residing in urban India.

Priority to the girl child, women and senior citizens

There is no cap on the family size and age as this health cover is inclusive for all.

It includes secondary and tertiary care

The scheme provides those in need to get secondary healthcare benefits offered by specialists like cardiologists and urologists.

    All pre-existing diseases covered

The PMJAY covers pre-existing illnesses and makes mandatory treatment in all public hospitals, unlike most other insurance covers.

Cashless and paperless registration and administration

Removing the burden of out-of-pocket expenses, PMJAY aims to make the entire process of paying for healthcare cashless. Additionally, PMJAY beneficiaries can seek treatment across India.

    Substantial reduction of out-of-pocket expenditure

All public and empanelled private hospitals cannot charge any extra payment for medical care from all PMJAY beneficiaries.

Private sector participation in helping to achieve public health goals

Since the scheme covers such a large population, it will be purchasing services from private healthcare providers. This scheme is also expected to encourage the production of more affordable healthcare equipment and drugs.

Improvement of quality of life of the population

This scheme will improve the quality of life of the weaker sections of society. They will get timely care and finances to tackle their health issues.

    Broadening the health insurance network

PMJAY will lead to better infrastructure development in rural and under-served areas across the country.

  • I Am First Buddhist To Become Law Minister After Babasaheb Ambedkar, Says Kiren Rijiju

I Am First Buddhist To Become Law Minister After Babasaheb Ambedkar, Says Kiren Rijiju

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday condemned the ongoing opposition protests, accusing the Congress party of a “conspiracy against BR Ambedkar” and questioning their respect for the former Minister of Law and Justice of India.

Rijiju also highlighted that he is the first Buddhist after Ambedkar to hold the position of Union Law Minister.

“Today, I am the Parliamentary Affairs Minister. Ministers Arjun Meghwal and L Murugan, all three of us, come from the same practice as Ambedkar. I am the first Budh (Buddhist) to become Law Minister after 71 years. PM Modi ensured that I sit in Ambedkar’s chair,” Rijiju said.

The minister also accused Congress of manipulating and editing a clip of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s speech about BR Ambedkar.

“Congress must tell us one thing which they have done for Baba Saheb Ambedkar. We are making many memorials in memory of him. Ambedkar has been venerable to us, and Congress should stop doing political drama,” Rijiju said in a press conference.

“The speech given by Home Minister Amit Shah yesterday was clipped out of context and then made viral by the opposition, I want to condemn them doing this,” the Union Minister added.

Talking about the Congress’s alleged disrespect toward Ambedkar, Rijiju said, “Congress has insulted Ambedkar so much that he had to resign from his post. He even wanted to come back to Parliament in later elections but Congress started a conspiracy and defeated Ambedkar from Mumbai, and then they did it again. So Ambedkar left politics and took up his dharm in Nagpur, Dheekshabhoomi.”

Rijiju further stated, “The Congress did not award Ambedkar the Bharat Ratna for many years. They insulted Babashaheb by defeating him in the 1952 elections under a conspiracy. After that, in the by-election that took place in Vidarbha, Congress defeated Ambedkar. If Congress had not defeated him, Baba Saheb would have been a part of this Parliament even after 1952.”

Defending Amit Shah’s remarks, Rijiju said the Home Minister’s speech reflected reverence for Ambedkar. Meanwhile, both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned until 2 pm. following the opposition’s protests.
