On Friday (26th December), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal strongly condemned the latest killing of a Hindu man in Bangladesh. The MEA spokesperson said that the recent incidents of Muslim mob violence against Hindu minorities in the neighbouring country are “worrisome” and these incidents cannot be ignored.

Jaiswal further stated that India has taken note of the disturbing developments in Bangladesh and expressed hope that the perpetrators of the brutal killing of both Hindu men, Dipu Chandra Das and Amrit Mondal, will be identified and brought to justice.

“We are all aware of the recent developments in Bangladesh. We have been closely following them, and as far as the law-and-order situation is concerned, I have been apprising you from time to time as to what our position has been or should be and is today. The unremitting hostility against minorities in Bangladesh, including Hindus, Christians and Buddhists at the hands of extremists, is a matter of grave concern,” the MEA spokesperson said.

Randhir Jaiswal added, “We condemn the recent gruesome killing of a Hindu youth in Mymensingh and expect that the perpetrators of the crime will be brought to justice. Over 2,900 incidents of violence against minorities, including cases of killings, arsons, and land grabs, have been documented by independent sources during the tenure of the interim government. These incidents cannot be brushed aside as mere media exaggerations or dismissed as political violence.”

The Indian government’s statement comes a day after a 29-year-old man identified as Amrit Mandal, also known as Samrat, was lynched by a Muslim mob in Bangladesh’s Rajbari district late on Wednesday night, amid allegations of attempted extortion. The incident occurred in the old market area of Hosendanga village in Pangsha Upazila around 11 PM, according to local police reports.

The killing came amid heightened concerns over minority safety in Bangladesh, and it comes just days after the December 19 lynching of Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh over blasphemy allegations. However, as Amrit Mandal’s lynching is reportedly linked to an alleged extortion attempt, and there is no religious angle, as per the police.
