We all know that China takes great pride in its advanced weaponry, and it is proud of its defence machinery. Altogether many of its military technologies are believed to be based on stolen designs from other countries, its technology is often termed as one of the best in the world. One such system, which is allegedly inspired  by US technology is the HQ-19 air defense system, which is widely considered a replica of the US THAAD missile system. However, China asserts that the HQ-19 surpasses THAAD in several key aspects.

The Chinese Hongqi-19 (HQ-19), also known as Red Flag-19, was officially unveiled after 14 years of development and testing. It is an advanced anti-ballistic missile system designed to intercept threats beyond the atmosphere, making it a critical component of China’s missile defense network. Additionally, the HQ-19 defence system is capable of engaging hypersonic threats traveling within the Earth’s atmosphere, a capability that China claims gives it a technological edge over its American counterpart, THAAD missile system.

CCS clears Rs 7,000 cr deal for procurement of ATAGS

In another important defence update, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) headed by Prime Minister Narendra of India, Narendra Modi has approved a mega deal to procure advanced towed artillery gun system (ATAGS) for the Indian Army at a cost of Rs 7,000 crore, marking a major step in indigenous manufacturing of such howitzers.

The ATAGS is the first indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured 155 mm artillery gun system and its procurement is set to enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Army. The gun system features a long 52-calibre barrel, allowing for extended strike range of up to 45 km. The CCS cleared the proposal to procure the ATAGS, the report said.

The defence acquisition council had accorded the initial approval to the procurement around two years ago. Under the deal, a total of 307 guns will be procured along with 327 gun-towing vehicles.

The deployment of the gun system along India’s western (Pakistan) and northern (China) borders will provide the armed forces with a significant strategic edge, ensuring enhanced operational readiness and firepower.
