Mumbai: A brief security stir unfolded at BJP Former MP Kirit Somaiya’s weekly Janata Darbar on Saturday after a man carrying a licensed firearm arrived to meet the Kirit Somaiya. The incident took place around 2:30 PM Yesterday when Farukh Chaudhary, a resident of Bhiwandi, visited the public meeting with his licensed pistol.
According to officials, Chaudhary informed a police constable at the place of Janata Darbar about his weapon, which was legally registered. The on-duty police staff promptly informed Somaiya’s central security personnel.
Following this, Somaiya’s personal assistant inquired into the matter and instructed Chaudhary to keep the firearm outside before meeting the Kirit Somaiya. After complying with the request, Chaudhary met Somaiya and left.
However, around 6:30 PM the same day, Somaiya’s PA submitted a letter to the Navghar Police Station requesting a detailed background verification of Chaudhary. DCP Vijaykant Sagar, speaking to The Free Press Journal, confirmed that the man possessed a valid firearm license since 2023.
“He had come to seek assistance on personal matters from Kirit Somaiya. He was called in today for questioning, but no suspicious behavior has been found,” said the officer. Further investigation is underway.
