A major road accident took place near Kadayanallur in Tenkasi district today when two private buses crashed head-on. Six people, including five women, lost their lives in the accident. More than 40 passengers, including children, were injured.
Police and rescue teams reached the spot quickly after getting information. The injured were taken to the Tenkasi Government Hospital in over 20 ambulances. Doctors say that the condition of some people is very serious.
Early reports say the accident may have happened because the two private buses were racing against each other. Rescue work is still going on at the accident site.
