Mumbai: In an effort to decongest city roads by cleaning abandoned vehicles, the BMC has facilitated three numbers where citizens can report abandoned, scrap vehicles in their areas to the authorities.

Citizens Can Now Report Scrap Vehicles via Three Dedicated Mobile Numbers

The three mobile numbers are- 8828896903 for the city division- 7505123456, for the eastern suburbs- 9819543092 and for the western suburbs. Complaints can be registered on the BMC website https://www.mcgm.gov.in and helping number 1916.

Vehicles Left Unattended Will Be Towed, Disposed of if Not Claimed Within 30 Days

The BMC has appointed three contractors for this job. Once the complaint is received, notices will be issued against the abandoned vehicles under section 314 of the MMC Act 1888. If the vehicle owner does not remove the vehicle from the public road within 72 hours of the issuance of the notice, the said vehicle will be towed and taken to the contractor’s yard. The vehicle will be disposed of after 30 days and no claim can be made in this regards after that.

Move Aims to Decongest City Roads, Ease Motorist and Pedestrian Movement

The BMC has urged the owners to pay the fine within 30 days that if the vehicle has been towed and deposited in the yard. The move is taken to fasten the process of identifying abandoned vehicles, their towing and disposal, thereby clearing the unnecessarily obstructing on the public roads and inconvenience motorists and pedestrians as well.
