BJP’s Ghatkopar Corporator Ritu Tawade Named Mahayuti’s Mayoral Nominee, Shiv Sena Names Sanjay Gadhi For Deputy Post | GPlus
Mumbai: The Mahayuti alliance, comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiv Sena, on Saturday (February 7) nominated Ritu Tawade as its candidate for the Mumbai mayor’s post. Tawade is a senior BJP corporator from Ghatkopar.
The election for the mayor and deputy mayor posts is scheduled for February 11 at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Shankar Ghadi is the alliance’s nominee for Deputy Mayor. Ghadi is a corporator from Ward no. 5. He had earlier won the 2017 BMC election from Ward No. 4 as a candidate of the combined Shiv Sena. Shinde Sena leader Rahul Shewale stated that the deputy mayor’s tenure will be for one and a half years, instead of the earlier two-and-a-half-year term.
The BJP emerged as the single largest party in the 2026 BMC elections, winning 89 seats. Its alliance partner, the Shinde-led Shiv Sena, secured 29 seats. Additionally, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) corporator Ajit Raorane extended his support to the Mahayuti. With this backing, the BJP-led Mahayuti has secured a total of 119 seats, putting the alliance in a ruling position.
