The BJP on Tuesday suspended its former Thrissur district committee member, Vijeesh Vettam, from the party in a disciplinary action.
The saffron party’s action against Vijeesh came hours after he moved the Kerala High Court seeking an immediate ban on the film Empuraan.
In his petition before the court, Vijeesh alleged that the film contains certain scenes referring to the Godhra riots and includes “unwarranted remarks” about the Defence Ministry. He also claimed that the film undermines the integrity and credibility of central investigation agencies and has the potential to “provoke communal unrest.”
Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court has refused to stay the screening of the film. The court has issued a notice to the central and state governments, seeking their response on the issue.
During the hearing today, the court asked the petitioner if he had watched the film. The bench also questioned the basis of his objection, stating that if the censor board had already issued a certificate, what was the point of raising an objection?
