Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met on Friday,

Now, China wants to take its relations with India to new heights. This must have hurt Pakistan, which has always touted its relations with China and received its support.
Global Times, considered China’s mouthpiece has given prominence to the meeting between Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday, February 22. It has been showcased prominently on the Global Times website on Sunday, 23 February 2025. It clearly indicates that China is now serious about its relations with India.
Wang Yi met S Jaishankar in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Friday, February 22, reported the Global Times. Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said that last year, President Xi Jinping met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kazan, which set the direction for the improvement and development of bilateral relations. The two sides agreed that, as two ancient civilizations and major neighbouring countries, China and India should rely on each other, support and achieve mutual success.
Wang said that exchanges at all levels between the two countries have been continuously resumed and that special representatives on border issues have reached a consensus on properly handling specific differences.
According to Global Times, Wang stated that the restoration of mutual trust and realization of win-win cooperation between China and India meets the shared expectations of the people of both countries. Both sides should adhere to the consensus reached by the two heads of state, ensuring that bilateral relations remain on the right track. China is ready to work with India to plan the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, which will bring new momentum to the development of bilateral relations.
According to Global Times, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated that the meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Xi in Kazan provided significant guidance for rebuilding bilateral relations. Exchanges in various fields between the two countries have gradually resumed, yielding important results.
Establishing mutual trust between India and China is in the interest of both sides. Jaishankar emphasized that India values the progress made in improving bilateral relations and is ready to work with China to accelerate the restoration of cooperative mechanisms, enhance cultural exchanges, facilitate people-to-people relations, and jointly maintain peace and stability in border areas. In today’s world, facing the risks of division and polarization, strong international cooperation between India and China becomes particularly important.
Jaishankar expressed India’s willingness to enhance communication and coordination with China on these matters.
