A Bengaluru-based dog breeder, S Satish, has made headlines by acquiring an extremely rare wolfdog for a staggering ₹50 crore (approximately 4.4 million pounds). The unique canine, named Cadaboms Okami, is believed to be the first of its kind-a cross between a wolf and a Caucasian Shepherd.
Born in the United States, Cadaboms Okami is already making waves in India. At just eight months old, the wolfdog weighs over 75 kilograms and has an appetite to match, consuming approximately 3 kg of raw meat daily. The animal’s striking resemblance to a wild wolf, combined with its sheer size and strength, sets it apart from other domesticated dog breeds. The purchase of this breed, as reported by The Sun, has stirred curiosity among dog lovers and breeders alike.
What makes this Wolfdog special?
Cadaboms Okami is a hybrid of a wolf and a Caucasian Shepherd-a breed known for its immense size, protective instincts, and origins in the Caucasus Mountains, where it was traditionally bred to guard livestock from predators. The combination of these two powerful species results in a one-of-a-kind canine that embodies both the wild nature of a wolf and the loyalty of a guard dog.
Why did Satish buy the wolfdog?
Satish, the president of the Indian Dog Breeders Association, has a well-known passion for rare and unique breeds. Speaking about his latest acquisition, he stated, “This breed has never been sold before. I wanted to introduce something unique to India.”
Satish stopped breeding dogs nearly a decade ago but has since turned his passion into a business, earning substantial income by showcasing rare breeds at public events. “People are always eager to see them. They take selfies and pictures. My dog and I get more attention than a movie star at a film screening,” he remarked, adding that a single 30-minute appearance with his rare breeds can earn him up to ₹25,000.
Cadaboms Okami has quickly become a celebrity in Karnataka, making appearances at high-profile events alongside Satish. The wolfdog’s commanding presence and unique heritage have attracted significant media and public attention.
A luxurious life on a 7-acre farm
Despite his wild ancestry, Okami enjoys a comfortable life on Satish’s expansive 7-acre farm, where he shares space with other rare breeds. Each dog on the property has its own 20ft by 20ft enclosure, along with ample open areas for exercise. The animals receive dedicated care from a team of six caretakers who ensure their well-being.
Satish emphasised that while his dogs do not require air conditioning due to Bengaluru’s mild climate, they are well taken care of. “There is plenty of space for them to walk and run. They are happy and healthy here.”
Cadaboms Okami’s arrival in India marks a significant moment for dog enthusiasts and breeders. With its rarity, imposing stature, and celebrity-like status, this wolfdog is more than just a pet-it’s a phenomenon.
