Actress Barkha Bisht, who made her television debut as Udita in the teen drama Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi, recently recalled being sued by producer Ektaa Kapoor after quitting a Balaji Telefilms serial. She feared losing herself in the characters and also felt the need to prove herself to her father after leaving home to pursue acting in Mumbai. The 45-year-old actress revealed that Ektaa sued her when she was just 23. She recalled getting ‘freaked’ out after Ektaa’s lawyers kept calling and sending her legal notices.

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Barkha said, “I didn’t tell anyone at home; I hired a lawyer and fought the case. Over time, she realised it was pointless, and I’m grateful that she backed off. At that time, Ektaa had the power to make or break your career—even today, she does. The case went on for about a year, and I continued shooting for my new show while also attending court hearings.”

Furthermore, the actress shared that she did not inform her family about the lawsuit. She explained, “After fighting at home and coming to Mumbai, you can’t go back and complain.”

“I had come with the pride of ‘jo bhi karungi, khud karungi.’ So, I had to handle it myself. As a newcomer, my career could have ended, but by some divine power, Ektaa backed out. If she had wanted to, she could have ended my career,” concluded Bisht.

On the work front, Barkha was last seen in Power of Paanch, starring Riva Arora, Jaiveer Juneja, Aditya Arora, Anubha Arora, Bianca Arora, Yash Sehgal, Barkha Bisht and Urvashi Dholakia.

The show premiered on Disney+ Hotstar earlier this year.
