The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has paid about Rs 400 crore in tax to the government over the past five years, as tourism is booming, and the number of devotees is increasing every month. According to Trust Secretary Champat Rai, the whopping amount was paid between February 2020 and February 2025. Out of Rs 400 crore, Rs 270 crore was paid as Goods and Services Tax (GST), while the remaining Rs 130 crore was paid under other tax categories.
Significant Center For Religious Tourism
The holy city has witnessed a tremendous increase in tourists and has emerged as a major religious tourism hub, generating employment opportunities for the local people. Rai stated that during the Maha Kumbh event, which is the largest religious gathering in the world, about 1.2 crore devotees visited Ayodhya. In 2024, the holy city witnessed 16 crore visitors, with five crore visiting the Ram Temple.
Notably, the financial records of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust are regularly recorded and audited by officials from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).
The Pran Pratishtha
The Ram Mandir was consecrated (Pran Pratishtha) on January 22, 2024, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi officiating the ceremonies. The occasion attracted religious leaders, political representatives, and dignitaries from all over India. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust was established in 2020 to manage the temple’s construction in Ayodhya, following the Supreme Court’s 2019 ruling that allowed for the temple’s building.
