The new Assassin’s Creed game selling well is not a surprise. But Assassin’s Creed Shadows has done even better than expected. Ubisoft confirmed that the game reached 2 million players in just two days.

Reports from VGC and Insider Gaming say Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the second-biggest launch in the series and is only behind Assassin’s Creed Valhalla from 2020. Not just in the series, it is also Ubisoft’s second-biggest launch ever.

According to Insider Gaming, Shadows had 2.2 million players in its first two days. For comparison, Valhalla had 2.55 million. The game is expected to reach 6 million players in its first month. In the same period, Odyssey had 3.4 million players and Valhalla had 8 million.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows had the biggest Ubisoft launch ever on the PlayStation Store. On PC, 27% of all activations were on Steam. It is also important to note that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the first major Ubisoft game to release day one on Steam since 2019. Previously, the company only prioritized its own digital store. The game also had the best start for a Ubisoft title on Twitch, with over 11 million hours of watch time on day one.

On Steam, Shadows peaked at 41,000 concurrent players at first. That number has now grown to 64,825, making it the most-played Assassin’s Creed game on the platform. This is Ubisoft’s first major Steam release since 2019, which helped boost its numbers.

Players and critics are giving Assassin’s Creed Shadows positive reviews. Many say it mixes old and new Assassin’s Creed gameplay in a great way.

It seems the Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a big success for Ubisoft. Now the question is—can it keep up this momentum and challenge Valhalla as the best-selling game in the series?
