NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule on Tuesday attacked the Maharashtra government for its failure to arrest the absconding accused, Krushna Andhale in the Massajog village sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh murder case, despite two months having passed since the incident.
Speaking to reporters in Beed district after meeting Deshmukh’s family, Sule said she had raised the matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who had assured her that he would look into the murder case.
In a public statement, she appealed to residents of Massajog not to resort to a hunger strike for justice. “This fight is not just yours, but ours. I, as a woman and as an MP, will stand by you,” Sule declared.
In a pointed remark aimed at MLA Suresh Dhas, Sule emphasised that she would not engage in secret meetings or compromises regarding the case.
In an explosive allegation, Santosh Deshmukh’s brother Dhananjay Deshmukh accused the Beed police of attempting to mislead the investigation. Dhananjay claimed that police had tried to portray the murder as a result of an illicit affair by planting a woman in Kalamb to defame his brother. The conspiracy was allegedly foiled due to the vigilance of local villagers. Dhananjay further alleged that Santosh’s body was being transported in an ambulance to Kalamb village with the intention of fabricating evidence of an affair.
Sule, in her statements, expressed concerns over the lack of transparency in the case and vowed to ensure that the Deshmukh family would receive regular updates. She also mentioned plans to meet with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to further press for justice.
In a show of solidarity, Sule also offered condolences to the family of Mahadev Munde, another victim whose murder remains unsolved. She called for a transparent inquiry into the case and criticized the climate of fear in the region, lamenting that people were hesitant to speak out.
