Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has narrated a hilarious story about how ex-Pakistan cricketer Javed Miandad ruined his wedding day with Reena Dutta, leaving him depressed. The veteran actor recalled that it was on the day that Miandad hit a last-ball six against India in Sharjah as India lost from being in a winning position.
The match dates back to the Austral-Asia Cup in Sharjah between India and Pakistan. With Pakistan chasing a tricky 246 for victory, they required four off the very final ball. Miandad, facing Chetan Sharma, clobbered the ball for a six to fashion a memorable win for their side.
Speaking to Lallantop in a recent interview, Aamir revealed meeting Miandad during a flight, a few years after the match and hilariously accused him of ruining his wedding. He elaborated:
“Toh 18 April ko hamaari shaadi hui, 1986. Aur yeh vahi din hai jab Javed Miandad ne last ball pe chakka maara tha. Same day hamaari shaadi hui. Hum woh match jeet rahe they. Toh mujhe badi khushi hui yaar ki hum log match bhi jeet rahe hain. Khushi ka din hai aur hum Pakistan ko haraayenge toh aur maza aayega. Hum jeet rahe they, main bahut excited tha, taali vagerah maarna shuru ho gaya tha. Woh last ball pe usne kahan se chakka maar diya yaar.
Main bada depressed hua. Baad mein main Javed Miandad se mila bhi tha ek flight pe. Maine unse kaha, ‘Aapne meri shaadi barbaad kar di’. He asked, ‘kaise?’. I said, ‘usi din aapne chakka maara tha.”
(So, we got married on April 18, 1986. It was the same day that Javed Miandad hit a six off the last ball in Sharjah. We were winning that game. I was happy, it was already a big day and we were defeating Pakistan, it will be bigger. I was quite excited. But he hit a six off the last ball. I was pretty depressed. Later, I met Miandad in a flight. I told him, ‘you ruined my marriage’. He asked, ‘how?’ I said, ‘You hit a six that day’.
