Amazon is taking Alexa to the next level with Alexa+, a next-generation AI assistant designed to be more conversational, intuitive, and deeply integrated into daily life. Alexa+ is built on powerful generative AI and claims to be more than just a voice assistant. It’s a personalized, proactive helper that understands users better than ever before.
Alexa+ is designed to feel more natural and offer human-like in conversations. It understands half-formed thoughts, colloquial phrases, and even complex requests. Amazon has introduced “experts”, specialized AI-driven capabilities that allow Alexa+ to orchestrate tasks across thousands of services and devices. Whether it’s managing your smart home, making reservations, ordering groceries, or reminding you about concert ticket sales, Alexa+ seamlessly integrates with platforms like OpenTable, Amazon Fresh, Uber Eats, and Ticketmaster. This makes it really helpful in your daily life.
Alexa+ now remembers and adapts to users’ preferences. It keeps track of important dates, favorite meals, past purchases, and even family recipes. You can tell Alexa things like “My daughter is vegetarian” or “Remind me about mom’s birthday,” and it will factor that information into future recommendations and reminders.
For example, if you ask Alexa+ for dinner ideas, it will suggest recipes or restaurants that align with your dietary preferences and past orders.
Alexa+ seamlessly integrates with Amazon’s smart home ecosystem. Users can control Fire TV devices and jump to specific movie scenes with voice commands. It can also move music between speakers in different rooms, summarize footage from Ring security cameras to provide detailed scene descriptions, and highlight key moments. Alexa+ can also automate smart home routines, adjusting lighting, temperature, and appliances based on your habits.
Alexa+ is also a powerful shopping and productivity tool. It can now make Smarter Grocery Lists. Instead of listing items one by one, users can say, “Get everything we need for banana bread, except the spices, and add Bob’s Red Mill pancake mix,” and Alexa+ will automatically generate a comprehensive shopping list.
Document Handling & Organization capabilities of Alexa+ are impressive. Users can upload files, emails, and documents for Alexa+ to analyze and reference.
For Example: “I forwarded my work schedule—are there any important events?” Alexa+ will extract key details and notify you.
It can also add text to a calendar or create reminders from emails and documents.
Alexa+ keeps users entertained with deeper media integrations. It supports Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, and iHeartRadio. It can track and recommend new artists based on past listening habits. Alexa+ also allows users to ask follow-up questions about songs, albums, and artists. This makes music exploration more interactive.
Alexa+ now also powers personalized photo galleries and a “For You” panel on Echo Show devices.
As part of Amazon Kids+, Alexa+ introduces two major features for children:
- Explore with Alexa: Kids can ask questions like “Can plants talk to each other?” and get engaging, educational responses.
- Stories with Alexa: Allows children to generate AI-driven stories by providing prompts like “Tell me a story about a bearded dragon that plays the saxophone.”
Amazon Kids+ is priced at $5.99 per month for Prime members and $7.99 per month for non-Prime members.
Alexa+ is built with privacy in mind. Users can manage data, review interactions, and delete stored information through the Alexa Privacy Dashboard. The assistant runs on AWS’s secure infrastructure, ensuring strong data protection and transparency.
Alexa+ will be free for Amazon Prime members and non-Prime users can subscribe for $19.99 per month. Early access begins next month in the U.S., with a wider rollout planned in the coming months.
Initially, Alexa+ will be available on Echo Show 8, 10, 15, and 21. The company has not confirmed if speaker-only devices like the Echo Dot and Echo Pop will receive the upgrade.
Amazon is also launching Alexa.com. It is a new web-based experience optimized for long-form interactions. The company has also redesigned the Alexa mobile app with an improved interface and expanded functionality.
