Radiate love for yourself and others despite the shortcomings. This can heal and harmonise. Meditate enough to merge into your peace; merge enough to not know that you are meditating. Simply be ‘Peace’.”
New Delhi: The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes meditation as an impactful self-care tool that enhances one’s overall well-being and also supports the treatments for different ailments. The act of meditation has been found to be particularly beneficial is managing anxiety and stress-related symptoms. It is a matter of pride that this mindful practice, which finds its origin amidst ancient Indian practices, has been recognized by the United Nations as the World Meditation Day. The idea behind celebrating a day for meditation is to acknowledge and emphatically communicate the multipronged benefits of this spiritual act. Therefore, it is important to understand what meditation actually means for spiritual teachers and leaders, who inspire lakhs of people to lead their lives with holistic wellness and peace of mind.
According to Sri Madhusudan Sai, a global humanitarian and spiritual teacher committed to creating an educated and healthier India, meditation is primarily a tool to transcend our mind as well as body. He says, “One ‘Consciousness’ unites us all because it is ‘this’ of which we are wholly made. Where can one find ‘this’? within us by transcending our body and mind. Meditation is a tool to transcend. Moderate your thoughts and emotions through meditation, and settle into your depths. In its silence, you will find real existence which is the same in all; your peace emerges from there.”
Delving further into the concept, he pointed that when humans nurture their peace individually, it can ultimately lead to global harmony. “Harmony is achieved when we don’t harm others because there are no ‘others.’ All we need to do is shift the balance together towards global harmony by nurturing our peace individually.”
When asked as to explain the correlation between meditation and seeking peace, the spiritual teacher mentioned, “Peace is love expressed as understanding. Watch your mind with a calm understanding and extend the same understanding to others. Radiate love for yourself and others despite the shortcomings. This can heal and harmonise. Meditate enough to merge into your peace; merge enough to not know that you are meditating. Simply be ‘Peace’.”
Notably, the spiritual icon spearheads a global humanitarian mission, spread across 60 countries, that works towards ensuring education, health and nutrition for children across rural parts of India and several other countries. His mission serves 1 crore children across India daily as part of the world’s largest morning nutrition programme, and also runs the world’s first free medical college, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
