Air India, has issued its first statement after the disastrous incident and said that the airline is ascertaining the details of the crash.

In a drastic turn of events, an Air India flight with 242 passengers, including 2 pilots and 10 cabin crew, crashed near the Ahmedabad airport on Thursday (June 12). Soon after the incident, rescue teams and the fire brigade were rushed to the site. Now, the company, Air India, has issued its first statement after the disastrous incident and said that the airline is ascertaining the details of the crash.

Air India in its official statement said, “Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025. At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest on http://airindia.com and on our X handle.”

Following the plane crash, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said that he is shocked and devastated by the news.

“We are on the highest alert. I am personally monitoring the situation and have directed all aviation and emergency response agencies to take swift and coordinated action,” Naidu said.

Adding more, the minister revealed that the rescue teams have been mobilised and efforts are being made to ensure medical aid and relief support have been rushed to the incident site. “My thoughts and prayers are with all those on board and their families,” he said.

The plane, which was en route to London, crashed soon after taking off and caught fire. According to media reports, the Air India plane from Ahmedabad to London took off from the airport at 1:17.

Details about the casualties are still awaited. Reports also claim that Gujarat’s former Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani, was also on board that plane.
