On the occasion of World Environment Day, Dr Subhash Chandra, has shared a heartfelt and timely message for the world.
With the climate crisis menacing ecosystems, biodiversity, and human health, global environmental action has never been more critical. World Environment Day presents an opportunity for all of us to reflect and a stage upon which solutions can be amplified. Observed worldwide on June 5, it is a reminder to all nations that protecting the environment is not only a duty of governments but also a responsibility of all individuals and communities. Every year on June 5, citizens from all over the world come together to commemorate World Environment Day, an activity sponsored by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5. The official theme for World Environment Day 2025 is “Beat Plastic Pollution.” This campaign is all about raising awareness worldwide about the serious damage plastic waste is causing to our ecosystems, wildlife, and even our own health. It’s a call for all of us to come together and take action to reduce plastic pollution before it’s too late.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Dr Subhash Chandra, has shared a heartfelt and timely message for the world. In his special address, Dr. Chandra reflects on the pressing environmental challenges of our time. He stated that one careless action leads to enormous destruction of the surroundings and nature.
Later in the video, he urged everyone to be kind to the environment. The video begins with Dr. Subhash Chandra posing a simple yet powerful question: “It’s just one wrapper, right?” He points out how often we dismiss plastic waste as insignificant—just one straw, one bottle, or one careless moment. But he challenges this thinking by asking, “What if it’s never just one?”
He explains how that single piece of plastic doesn’t simply disappear; instead, it becomes part of the soil, seeps into the ocean, and breaks down into tiny, invisible fragments. These microplastics are too small to see but too serious to ignore. Dr. Chandra’s message drives home the reality that when we discard plastic, we don’t truly throw it away—we just throw it somewhere else, where it continues to harm our planet. He said, “The breath you take in was gift from a tree.” “Your smallest choice echoes through the entire web of life,” he further added.
In his moving World Environment Day message, Dr. Subhash Chandra gives us a simple and yet wise piece of advice: “This Environment Day, don’t try to be perfect, just be aware.” He urges us to be more compassionate towards the planet—and towards one another. “Be a little more kind to the earth, to others, to the invisible thread that connects us all,” he says, reminding us that each small act of consciousness and niceness has the potential to bring meaningful change.
