Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A formal complaint has been submitted at the Palasia police station against filmmaker Anurag Kashyap for allegedly making offensive, objectionable and caste-based comments against the Brahmin community through a recent social media post.

Anmol Tiwari, president of the Sarv Brahmin Maitri Sangh, advocate Rajat Shri Ram Sondhia, advocate Swati Mishra and advocate Aayush Ghadghe have filed the complaint.

According to the written complaint, Anurag Kashyap reportedly shared a post on social media that contained objectionable and derogatory remarks towards the Brahmin community.

The complainants have claimed that such comments are not only disrespectful but also incite communal disharmony and hurt the sentiments of Brahmins across the country. The letter urges the authorities to register an FIR under relevant sections and take strict legal action.

The controversy stems from a Tamil film titled Bad Girl, which is being presented by Anurag Kashyap and Vetrimaaran. The teaser of the film has faced backlash on social media for allegedly portraying a Brahmin girl in a negative light. Critics, including Tamil filmmaker Mohan G, have accused the creators of deliberately targeting the Brahmin community and promoting a biased narrative.

The complainants have emphasised that the remarks made on social media cannot be dismissed as mere opinions and that such content, if left unchecked, could lead to social unrest.

They have demanded immediate police action and legal proceedings against Anurag Kashyap to prevent any further harm to communal harmony.

No official response had been issued by Kashyap or the filmmakers by the time this news was filed.

Two more complaints

Two more separate complaints have been submitted to the police here against Kashyap, while members of Shri Parshuram Sena staged a protest and immersed his effigy in the Kanh River, demanding strict action against him.

One complaint was submitted at the Palasia police station by Neeraj Yagnik, a social activist from Saket Nagar.

Yagnik alleged that Kashyap’s recent comments were derogatory and inflammatory, especially at a time when sensitive national issues, such as the Waqf Board discussions in the Supreme Court and the unrest in West Bengal, were already creating tension across the country.

The Parshuram Sena submitted a memorandum at MIG police station, demanding an FIR and immediate arrest of the filmmaker.
