With a paltry 41 million fixed broadband connections (compared to China’s 600M+), India is strapped for infrastructure.

New Delhi: Bangalore, India’s tech hub, hosted the country’s first-ever Solana DePIN Summit on March 25, 2025, marking a significant milestone for India’s digital ecosystem on the global stage. The event brought together Indian and international startups working on Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePIN), providing a platform for innovators and entrepreneurs to showcase their ideas to investors from India and around the world.

India has witnessed a major growth in blockchain startups, especially for DePIN, which combines IoT, energy networks, and wireless communications with blockchain for decentralized management. In contrast with conventional structures, DePIN empowers infrastructure by democratizing it, becoming more efficient and robust.

Y Combinator-backed startup Wifi Dabba, based in Bangalore, is the title sponsor for the summit. Wifi Dabba leverages the blockchain of Solana to drive broadband access in Tier 2/3 cities via a DePIN model, partnering with local operators under India’s PM-WANI program.

Wifi Dabba’s Co-founder Shubhendu Sharma stated:”Solana’s selection of India for its inaugural DePIN Summit reflects our increasing Web3 presence. Indian startups are using blockchain to address real-world issues.”

With a paltry 41 million fixed broadband connections (compared to China’s 600M+), India is strapped for infrastructure. Wifi Dabba’s DePIN model helps lower capital entry points, addressing the digital divide as TRAI aims for 100M broadband users by 2030.

Bangalore is known to be India’s Silicon Valley, that fosters varied blockchain startup scenes. Events like Solana DePIN summit will help amplify India’s role in the Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePIN) across the globe with the help of local talents and international support.

This landmark event will make India to emerge as an important player in Web3 innovations driving the wave of Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePIN).
