New Delhi: Eid al-Fitr is one of the most important festivals in Islam, celebrated at the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan. In India, preparations for the festival are in full swing, as Eid symbolizes “the festival of breaking the fast.” It also marks the beginning of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic (Hijri) calendar. In India, Ramadan started on March 2 with the sighting of the moon, and the month of Ramadan will end only after seeing the Shawwal moon and Eid will be celebrated. According to the reports, Eid is likely to be celebrated on March 30 or March 31 in India this year. However, Ramadan is of 30 days, so this year Eid will be celebrated on April 1, 2025. The probability is that the moon will be seen on March 30 and Eid will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

  • The Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait, as well as Western nations like the United States, the UK, France and Germany, will be gearing up for the moonsighting event on the evening of 29th day of Ramadan 1446 AH.
  • The Saudi Supreme Court and Moon Sighting Committees in the Middle East and West, will look for the crescent moon of Shawwal after the maghrib prayers.
  • Saudi Arabia has declared a four-day break from March 30 to April 2, with work resuming on April 3.
