Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In the ongoing investigation into the fake call centre scam, ASI Pawan Raghuvanshi, who was booked for accepting Rs 5 lakh bribe to avoid action against the accused, will soon be arrested and sent behind bars, said senior police officials.

The police stated that strong evidence exists against Raghuvanshi, and investigations are also underway against other cops named in the FIR. ASI Pawan Raghuvanshi, who is reportedly on the run, is currently admitted to a private hospital.

Police officials suspect that he may be feigning illness to evade arrest. Meanwhile, investigations into the fake call centre scam have found that Afzal Khan, one of the key suspects, was using the bribe money to invest in real estate. He is suspected of making property deals in Bhopal and Tikamgarh with the illicit funds obtained through the scam.

The police are now investigating properties bought in the name of Khan’s relatives and others. Preliminary investigations have shown that a Rs 25 lakh deal was offered to exclude the names of Afzal Khan’s wife, Zahida and his brother-in-laws, Moin Khan and Waseem, both residents of Tikamgarh. Moin Khan, aged 41, is said to have accumulated significant wealth in recent years, running a crusher plant and constructing several colonies.

The police suspect that Afzal Khan used his relatives to channel investments into other businesses. Moin Khan, who has contested municipal elections, is known to be close to corporator Anshul Jain. Jain was entrusted with the task of negotiating a deal to shield Afzal Khan from legal consequences.

As part of the arrangement, Jain reportedly handed over Rs 5 lakh as the first installment to ASI Pawan. However, Jain fled before he could be apprehended by the police team under ACP Surabhi Meena’s supervision. Moin Khan, a listed criminal in Tikamgarh, has 19 criminal cases against him, including charges for attempt to murder, extortion and robbery. The police have launched multiple raids at various locations to apprehend the accused.
