The Juhu police arrested a 26-year-old man who allegedly stabbed a 28-year-old man with a knife at Juhu Chowpatty on Sunday. In the attack, the victim’s left thumb was partially severed. The accused works at a stall at Chowpatty, while the victim is involved in online share trading. The Juhu police have registered a case of attempted murder and subsequently arrested the accused.

According to the police, the victim, Arjun Kailash Giri, resides at Powai. On Sunday, at 6.30 am, he went to Juhu Chowpatty with his a friend. While walking home after spending time at the beach, a dog from a food stall on Birla Lane barked at Giri. Startled by the dog, Giri picked up a nearby chair and tried to chase it away. Annoyed by Giri’s actions, the accused Omkar Mukhia began abusing and pushing him. Following this, the accused went to the food stall, picked up a knife, and attacked Giri, severing half of his left thumb.

After the incident, Giri was admitted to Cooper Hospital for treatment, where he gave his statement detailing the attack. The Juhu police were then informed, and a case was registered under Sections 109 (attempting to commit murder), 352 (assault or using criminal force against someone without a grave and sudden provocation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with relevant sections ofthe Arms Act. The police promptly dispatched a team and arrested the accused, identified as Omkar Manohar Mukhiya, also known as Omkar Sharma. The accused works in catering, taking up various small and temporary jobs.

Giri sustained serious injuries in the attack, including partial amputation of his left thumb. He also suffered knife wounds on the left side of his stomach, the back of his head, his left arm, his back, and both hands. He is currently undergoing treatment at Cooper Hospital, and his condition is reported to be stable.

The police stated the accused claimed that he acted in anger after Giri attempted to chase away the dog. Further investigations are underway.
