Some people can keep looking at the sky for hours together. Several people walk to the beaches or peacefully sit on their terraces to romance the beautiful sky above them, especially during sunrise and sunset. A man from Ireland named James Crombie embraced his passion for photography during the COVID-19 pandemic and his story is going viral on social media.

Bird-shaped murmuration

James made headlines in 2020 for clicking a spectacular sight from Ireland’s Lough Ennel. He skillfully captured a bird-shaped murmuration formed above the lake he visited to enjoy his evening. The picture of the murmuration of starlings widely circulated on social media and won him a lot of fame.

James-clicked picture went viral across the globe and got printed on page 1 of a notable local newspaper in 2021, followed by bringing the ace photographer recognition from National Geographic, CNN, The New Scientist, and more.

A photographer and author

Well, it all started as a hobby during the pandemic. A CNN report described Irish photographer James Crombie and said his “Covid-era hobby turned into a four-year project that produced around half a million photos”.

He is also the author of a book named “Murmurations”. The book comprises the amazing shots he recorded through his camera lenses.

Iconic picture viral again

His iconic capture from the lake has rerolled on the internet in 2025, drawing him to the spotlight once again. The photograph clicked 100 starlings flying above the waters before roosting at dusk.

Notably, James’s X account is full of picturesque images, especially featuring flocks of starlings in flight (murmuration).
