Sony has announced that PlayStation 5 has surpassed 75 million units shipped worldwide as of December 31, 2024. The latest numbers were revealed in Sony’s financial results for the three-month period ending December 31, 2024. The company has shipped 9.5 million PS5 units in the last three months of 2024. That’s an increase of 1.3 million compared to the same period the previous year.
During the last three months of 2024, a total of 95.9 million units of PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 games were sold. This is an increase of 6.2 million units compared to the 89.7 million units sold during the same quarter in the previous fiscal year.
Sony also reported growth in PlayStation Network activity. As of December 31, 2024, the PlayStation Network had 129 million monthly active users. It is an increase of six million users compared to the 123 million active users recorded during the same period in the previous year.
11.6 million units of first-party titles were sold, which is 4.6 million units lower than the 16.2 million units sold during the same period in the previous year. 74% of total game sales came from full-game digital downloads. It reflected a 3% decline from the previous year.
With 2025 expected to bring new game releases and potential hardware updates, it will be interesting to see how PlayStation continues to evolve. The steady growth in PlayStation Network users also signals increasing engagement with Sony’s ecosystem
