Mumbai: The Mumbai Police have detained a 52-year-old man from Chembur for making repeated hoax calls about a terrorist threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s plane.

The investigation revealed that the accused had made around 1,414 calls to the police control room in last Six Months, Who falsely claiming on Tuesday that an American terrorist planned to plant a bomb on Modi’s aircraft. The person who made the call has been detained and is claimed to be mentally ill, Said police Official.

According to Police, On Tuesday, the Suspect called the Mumbai Police control room and made an alarming claim that an American terrorist was planning to bomb PM Modi’s plane during his foreign tour. The caller further alleged that the same terrorist was responsible for six plane crashes last month.

The Azad Maidan Police detained the suspect from Chembur on Wednesday morning and have registered a non-cognizable offense against him. The police are now investigating his mental state and possible motives behind the repeated hoax calls.

Last year alone, the control room received nearly 100 such false alerts. In October, the number of threat calls crossed the 100-mark. Recently, the Reserve Bank of India also received a threat call on its customer care helpline, where the caller identified himself as the “CEO of Lashkar-e-Taiba.”

Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, as well as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, have also received threats in recent times. Additionally, a woman was found to have made over 30 false calls to the Mumbai Police control room in the past.

Across India, more than 200 threats related to flights were reported last year, with over 70 such messages received in just the first 15 days of October. Investigations have traced some IP addresses to locations in London, Germany, and France, raising suspicions that the culprits may be using VPN services to mask their identities.
