Chhattisgarh: In a tragic incident driven by superstition, a 35-year-old man lost his life after swallowing a live chicken as part of a ritual aimed at fulfilling his desire to become a father. The shocking event occurred in Surguja district, Chhattisgarh, and has drawn attention to the dangers of such practices.

Details On The Harrowing Incident

The deceased, Anand Kumar Yadav, hailed from Chhindkalo village and had reportedly been consulting a local tantric, who allegedly advised him to perform the bizarre ritual. According to reports, Anand collapsed at his home on December 14. He was immediately rushed to a medical college in Ambikapur, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

According to reports quoting doctors who conducted the autopsy, this is the first instance they have encountered such a case. They were shocked to discover a live chicken stuck in his throat. The chicken became lodged in the U-shaped area of Anand’s windpipe and oesophagus, resulting in asphyxiation. The obstruction blocked both the airway and the food passage, ultimately leading to suffocation.

Police Probe Underway In The Matter

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Amolak Singh Dhillon stated that while they await the final postmortem report, preliminary findings confirm suffocation as the cause of death. He added that this incident sheds light on the life-threatening consequences of superstitious practices, which persist despite consistent awareness campaigns.

Anand’s family was taken aback by the discovery. “We were completely unaware of the ritual or that he had swallowed a live chicken. We only learned about it after the postmortem,” a relative explained. Locals reported that Anand had been desperate for a son and, driven by frustration, fell prey to misguided beliefs promoted by the tantric.
