According to the meteorological department, dense to very dense fog is likely in various areas of Assam and Meghalaya, Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh until the morning of December 27.
A severe cold wave, accompanied by chilly winds, has gripped several parts of the country, causing temperatures to plummet across the state. Many regions of the country are facing extreme cold weather; in addition to this, many areas are experiencing dense fog or “extreme fog”. As a result, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a detailed press release predicting the weather forecast across the country. The IMD has now issued warnings of dense to very dense fog, cold waves, and chilly daytime temperatures in several states, including North India.
According to the meteorological department, dense to very dense fog is likely in various areas of Assam and Meghalaya, Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh until the morning of December 27.
Dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to continue during the night/morning hours over Uttar
Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana till January 1, 2026, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand till December 30, Bihar till December 27, Assam and Meghalaya till December 26, Uttar Pradesh till December 29, Haryana and Chandigar,h and Punjab till December 30.
“Dense fog conditions during night/morning hours very likely at some pockets over Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Odisha till December 30, Arunachal Pradesh till December 28, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal till December 27,” IMD in an official notification stated.
Cold day to severe cold day conditions are very likely at a few places over East Uttar Pradesh on December 26 and December 27; Cold day conditions very likely at isolated pockets over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal on December 26; Bihar during December 26- 30, Uttarakhand during December 26- 28; West Uttar Pradesh on December 26 and 27; East Uttar Pradesh on December 28, 2025.
It is to be noted that Cold wave conditions are likely over parts of in isolated pockets of north Rajasthan on December 27 and Jharkhand on December 27 and 28. On the other hand, Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall/snowfall is very likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan Muzaffarabad on December 26, and during December 29 to January 1, 2026, and over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand on December 26, 30, and December 31. Isolated thunderstorm and lightning with gusty wind speed (30-40kmph) likely to prevail over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during December 26 to December 30.

According to predictions from the Indian Meteorological Department for December 27 and 28, moderate to dense fog is forecasted for the Delhi and National Capital Region during the morning period of these dates. The expected low temperature will likely vary between 5 and 8 degrees Celsius, while the expected high temperature will range between 21 and 23 degrees Celsius. Due to visibility issues created from the fog, the Indian Meteorological Department has advised drivers to exercise caution and use fog lights while driving in the fog.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi and expects moderate to dense fog on Saturday.

The predominant surface wind is likely to be from the west direction with wind speeds less than 05 kmph during the morning hours. The wind speed will increase becoming upto 15 kmph from the northwest direction during afternoon hours. The wind speed will decrease, becoming less than 05 kmph from the west direction during the evening and night.
28.12.2025: Mainly clear sky. Moderate fog at many places with dense fog at isolated places during morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are likely to be in the ranges of 21°C to 23°C and 5°C to 7°C, respectively. The minimum temperatures will be near normal (-0.5°C to -1.5°C), and the maximum temperatures will be above normal (0.5°C to 2.5°C) over Delhi. The predominant surface wind is likely to be from the west direction with wind speeds less than 10 kmph during the morning hours. The wind speed will increase becoming upto 15 kmph from the northwest direction during afternoon hours. The wind speed will decrease, becoming less than 10 kmph from the west direction during the evening and night.
29.12.2025: Mainly clear sky. Shallow to moderate fog during morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are likely to be in the ranges of 21°C to 23°C and 6°C to 8°C, respectively. The minimum temperatures will be near normal (-0.5°C to -1.5°C), and the maximum temperatures will be above normal (0.5°C to 2.5°C) over Delhi. The predominant surface wind is likely to be from the west direction with wind speeds less than 10 kmph during the morning hours. The wind speed will gradually increase up to 15 kmph from the northwest direction in the afternoon, and 10 kmph during evening/night.
