Hence, entering the ‘very poor’ category, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
The country is still experiencing severe cold and dense fog. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now issued warnings for several states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Assam, and Meghalaya.
According to the IMD, dense to very dense fog conditions are expected to last in Bihar until December 26, in Assam and Meghalaya until December 27, and in Uttar Pradesh until December 29, particularly at night and early morning. Meanwhile, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh may continue to have foggy conditions until December 30.
In its press release, IMD stated, “Dense to very dense fog conditions very likely to prevail in night/morning hours in few parts of Punjab Haryana-Chandigarh till 30th December and Dense fog in isolated pockets for subsequent 2 days.”
“Dense to very dense fog conditions very likely to prevail in night/morning hours in some/many parts of West Uttar Pradesh till 29th December and Dense fog in isolated pockets for subsequent 3 days,” the India Meteorological Department (IMD) added.
Furthermore, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that dense fog conditions during night/morning hours are very likely at some pockets over Jammu-Kashmir, East Arunachal Pradesh till December 28, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura,
Assam & Meghalaya till December 30, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal till December 27.
“Cold day to severe cold day conditions very likely at a few places over Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during December 25-28; isolated pockets of Uttarakhand during December 25 -27 December,” IMD stated. It added, “Cold day conditions very likely at isolated pockets over East Uttar Pradesh on 25th& 26th December. Cold wave conditions likely over parts of Jharkhand on December 26 and December 27, West Rajasthan, north Chhattisgarh during December 26-December 28, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh during December 26 to 30.”
