Dr Umar Nabi, who carried out the Delhi Red Fort blast, was part of the ‘white-collar’ terror module linked to proscribed outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGH).
Delhi Red Fort Blast case: In a shocking revelation in the ‘white-collar’ terror module linked to the Delhi Red Fort blast, Dr Umar Nabi, the prime accused who carried out the November 10 car bombing that killed 13 people, had reportedly recruited a youth from south Kashmir, and “brainwashed” him to become a suicide bomber.
Why ‘Doctor Module’ wanted a suicide bomber?
According to investigators, the ‘white-collar’ terror module linked to proscribed outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGH), which was recently busted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police when they arrested a group of doctors allegedly spearheading the terrorist sleeper cell, had been actively scouting for a suicide bomber since last year, with key planner Dr Umar Nabi pushing the agenda, PTI reported.
Umar, who was killed while carrying out the Delhi Red Fort blast, was a “hardcore radical”, and had adamantly pursued the “need” for a suicide bomber to fulfill their terror operations, the arrested accused told the police during interrogation. Based on details revealed by the co-accused, including Dr Adeel Rather and Dr Muzzaffar Ganaie, Srinagar Police detained a youth from Qazigund in south Kashmir.
How Umar Nabi ‘brainwashed’ Kashmir man?
The young man, identified as Jasir alias ‘Danish’, a bachelor in political sciences, revealed that he first met the ‘white collar’ terror module led by the Kashmir-based doctors, at a mosque in Kulgam last year, Later, the doctors took him to a rented accommodation at the Al Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana.
Jasir revealed that while the others wanted him to be an over-ground worker (OGW) for the JeM terror group, Dr Umar Nabi had more insidious plans, and intensely brainwashed him for months to persuade him to become a suicide bomber. However, the plan fell apart when Jasir backed out in April this year, citing his poor economic condition and the belief that suicide was forbidden in Islam, officials said.
Officials say the startling revelation about the Doctor module scouting for suicide bombers adds a dangerous new dimension to the probe into the Jaish-linked interstate terror network, which is believed to have orchestrated the November 10 Delhi Red Fort blast.
Who was Dr Umar Nabi?
Umar Nabi, a 28-year-old doctor from Pulwama district in southern Kashmir, reportedly carried out the deadly Delhi Red Fort Blast on November 10 that killed 13 people. Umar, who was driving the explosive-laden i20 car, is also believed to have been killed in the attack.
Officials citing family and friends of the doctor-turned-terrorist have described Umar Nabi as a loner and a bookworm with an impeccable academic record, and its believed that a trip to Turkey in 2021 with co-conspirator Dr Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie, led to his dramatic radicalisation.
According to officials, during his 2021 Turkey trip, Dr Umar Nabi met two overground workers of the JeM terror group, which radicalised him to the point where he allegedly designed an elaborate terror plot to carry out a major bombing in national capital New Delhi on December 6, the anniversary of the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition.
After returning from Turkey, Umar, along with Ganaie, began to set his terror plan into motion, and started accumulating explosives, including ammonium nitrate, potassium nitrate and sulphur, which they stored in and around the Al Falah campus where he was pursuing higher studies.
