The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced on Thursday that the Lal Quila metro station will stay closed until further notice due to security concerns. The closure comes as security agencies continue their investigation into Monday evening’s blast near the Red Fort, which killed 12 people and injured several others. In a post on X, DMRC said, “Lal Quila Metro Station will remain closed till further notice due to security reasons.”

DMRC said that except for Lal Quila, all other metro stations are working as usual. People travelling in the Old Delhi area are advised to use nearby stations like Jama Masjid or Delhi Gate to avoid trouble.

Extra security staff have been deployed at metro stations, and officials are carrying out random bag checks and passenger screenings for safety.

After the explosion, the entire area around the Red Fort was sealed off, and police and forensic teams have been searching the site to collect evidence.

The November 10 blast tore through a busy street outside the Red Fort, shattering nearby shop windows and sending panic through the packed lanes of Old Delhi, one of the city’s most crowded areas.

Investigators soon suspected that Dr. Umar, a medical professional from Kashmir, was behind the attack. He had bought the white Hyundai i20 used in the explosion just 11 days earlier. DNA samples collected from his family in Pulwama matched with the human remains found in the car, confirming he was driving it when it exploded.

Officials now believe Dr. Umar was part of a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) network that operated between Faridabad, Lucknow, and south Kashmir. The group is thought to have had nine to ten members, including five or six doctors, who allegedly used their medical backgrounds to obtain chemicals and explosive materials for the plot.
