Due to the sudden disaster, local ghats (small drains) overflowed, and debris entered residential areas. A residential building was completely buried under the debris, while more than half a dozen houses and shops were flooded. A mixer machine and several two-wheelers were swept away in the debris, while a car was also buried under the debris.
People leave homes, move to safer places
When the situation worsened, people evacuated their homes and moved to safer places. The local administration and disaster management team are engaged in relief and rescue work. The drain flowing through Naugaon overflowed due to heavy rains, due to which water entered many shops and houses and vehicles parked on the roads were swept away. The SDRF has started a search operation.
CM Dhami issues guidelines
At the same time, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami posted on the social media platform X and said that as soon as he received information about the damage due to heavy rains in the Naugaon area of the Uttarakhand district, he immediately talked to the District Magistrate and instructed him to conduct relief and rescue operations on a war footing.
District administration, SDRF and NDRF teams have left for the affected area. Along with immediately taking the affected people to safe places, it has also been clearly instructed to ensure that there is no delay in providing relief to the affected.
Central team will assess the damage
A 7-member inter-ministerial central team will visit the state on September 8 to assess the damage in Uttarakhand, which has been affected by natural disasters continuously this monsoon. According to news agency PTI, State Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman said that a meeting will be held with the central team in Dehradun on September 8 itself.
Highest rainfall since 2010
This time, 574 mm of rain has been recorded during the monsoon in Uttarakhand, which has been described as the highest rainfall since 2010. Heavy rains have caused huge loss of life and property in the state. The central team will visit Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pauri, Bageshwar, and Nainital. The state government has demanded a special package of Rs 5702.15 crore from the Centre to compensate for the loss caused by the disaster and strengthen the infrastructure.
