New Delhi: In a significant development for India’s defence, India is preparing to strengthen its defense architecture with a comprehensive missile shield under Mission Sudarshan Chakra. Aimed at protecting the country from enemy air and missile strikes by 2035, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced about the defence system during his Independence Day address to the nation. Driven by DRDO’s upcoming Project Kusha, the Mission Sudarshan Chakra will develop a series of long-range interceptor missiles. Here are all the details you need to know about the Mission Sudarshan Chakra.

How will Mission Sudarshan Chakra help India?

As per media reports, these missiles will be capable of neutralising enemy aircraft, drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles before they can cause damage, creating a strong, layered security cover around the nation, acting as a bad news for China and Pakistan.

How powerful will be India’s Sudarshan Chakra?

The first test will be of the M-1 missile in 2026, capable of shooting down enemy aircraft, drones and cruise missiles up to 150 km. This will be followed by the M-2 missile in 2027 with a 250 km range, and later the M-3 missile with a 350 km range. These LR-SAM missiles are targeted to be ready by 2028 and handed over to the Army by 2030.

Story highlights:

  1. Indian CDS has said that India can build Iron Dome or Golden Dome at an affordable cost.
  2. India is preparing its own defence shield under Mission Sudarshan Chakra.
  3. PM Modi mentioned about the same in his Independence Day speech.

What CDS Anil Chauhan said on India’s defence?

According to CDS Anil Chauhan, the defense shield will protect India from attacks and also deliver a strong response. For this, multiple systems will need to be connected, along with a wide network of sensors on land, air, sea and space. DRDO has already carried out some tests, but the real challenge lies in integrating everything into one security cover.
