Udaipur Files Review

You might have heard or read about the movie Udaipur Files because, undoubtedly, it is one of the most controversial films of the year. Petitions were filed to ban the release of this movie, but finally, it hit the big screens today (August 8, 2025). So, is the film worth the hullabaloo that was happening around it? Read on to know that…

The film revolves around a horrific incident that took place in Udaipur. A tailor named Kanhaiya Lal Sahu (Vijay Raaz) was beheaded for allegedly sharing a post on Facebook in support of a politician’s remark about Prophet Mohammad. The film tries to show that the murder was well planned and it had a connection with terrorists in Pakistan.

Udaipur Files is inspired by a true story, but the makers start the film with a disclaimer that there are cinematic liberties taken while making it. The movie doesn’t target Islam as a religion or Muslims of India but tries to deal with terrorism. In fact, some scenes and dialogues showcase the patriotism of Muslims of our country. So, if someone is looking for the mudda of Hindu vs Muslim in this, then they will be disappointed.

But the film falters because of its weak screenplay and narration. The first half of the movie is cluttered; too many things are happening, and they are not fitting properly in the narrative. Also, the whole production looks very tacky. The interval just happens abruptly while an unneeded item song is going on. After a very weak first half, Udaipur Files becomes a BIT better in the second half, and the last 10 minutes will make you emotional.

Udaipur Files Review: Actors’ Performances

Vijay Raaz plays the lead role in Udaipur Files, and apart from a couple of scenes, the film doesn’t give him a chance to shine. He deserved a better-written role. Rajniesh Duggal has done a good job, but we really hope he gets better movies. Preeti Jhangiani is just okay.

Talking about other actors in the film, they are very bad. The loud acting by the supporting actors spoils the movie. A few better actors could have taken the movie a notch higher.

Kanhaiya Lal’s wife’s character is very important in the film, but Jayashree Mehta fails to impress.

Udaipur Files Review: Music

The songs of Udaipur Files are forgettable. None of them leave a mark, and the background score is torturous.

Udaipur Files Review: GPlus Verdict

Overall, Udaipur Files is a well-intentioned movie; it does tell a true story. But it is a badly made film. A better narration, good production value, and most importantly, some talented actors would have made this film watchable.
