Mumbai: Dharam Veer Meena, General Manager of Central Railway, felicitated 13 railway employees with the prestigious Safety Award at a function held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai on Tuesday.

Employees From Five Divisions Recognised for Alertness

The awardees include employees from various divisions of Central Railway — one from the Mumbai Division, four from Nagpur, three each from Solapur and Pune, and two from the Bhusaval Division. These employees were honoured for their timely interventions and vigilance that helped prevent potential accidents and ensured the safety of train operations in recent months.

Rs 2,000 Cash Prize and Citation Given to Awardees

Each recipient received a medal, a commendation certificate, a citation detailing their exemplary safety contributions, and a cash reward of Rs 2,000.

GM Emphasises Culture of Safety and Recognition

Dharam Veer Meena congratulated the awardees for their exemplary service. “Such acts of alertness and commitment not only safeguard lives and property but also inspire fellow employees to uphold the highest standards of safety in their work,” he said.

The General Manager emphasized the importance of a safety-first culture in railway operations and highlighted that recognizing the efforts of frontline staff plays a crucial role in fostering accountability and dedication.

Detailed List of Award-Winning Interventions Shared

Mahavir Meena, Track Maintainer, Lonavala, Mumbai division, while on patrolling duty on 24th June 2025 noticed that a tree had fallen down on the tracks.

He immediately showed a danger signal, stopping the train arriving on the track and informed all concerned thus helping avert a potential mishap.

Chandu Gangadhar Satpute, Train Manager, Ballarshah, Nagpur division, on 17th June 2025, while travelling in Coach B1 of 12670 Ganga Kaveri Express heard an unusual sound. He immediately pulled the alarm chain and stopped the train.

He examined the train and found a 20 feet long pipe stuck underneath. He pulled it out and informed the running staff of the train. His alertness and sharp thinking helped avert a possible mishap.

Pradeep Kumar, Station Manager, Gudankhapa, Nagpur division, on 04th June 2025, during exchange of signals with a passing goods train, noticed sparks coming out of the 42nd wagon from the Brake van end. He immediately informed all concerned.

The train was examined at the next station and it was found that he flooring sheet of the wagon had broken and was being dragged along the tracks by the wheels. The wagon was marked sick and a potential mishap was averted due to his alertness.

Likesh Kanhaiyalal, Technician (C&W), Amla, Nagpur division, on 10th July 2025, during rolling in examination of a goods train, noticed the grease seal of a wagon had shifted from its place and the axle box bearing cup was in broken condition. The wagon was marked sick and a possible mishap was averted due to his close monitoring skills.

Satya Prakash Rajurkar, Head Constable, Betul, Nagpur division, on 16th July 2025, at Betul station, noticed a passenger trying to board a moving train (Train no 12804 Hazrat Nizamuddin-Visakhapatnam express) and falling down in the process. He immediately rushed to pull him to safety putting his own life at risk. His quick thinking and action helped save a life.

Madhusudan Bala, Station Manager, Khadki, Pune division, while on duty on 09th July 2025, noticed that the Loco Pilot of the passing Vande Bharat Express has not followed the Caution order of 30kmph. He immediately informed the Running staff of the train and all concerned. His alertness has helped save a potential mishap.

Suraj Lanjewar, AC Coach Maintainer(Electrical), Pune, Pune division, while on duty on 04rth July 2025, in Train no 12130 Howrah-Pune Express, noticed smoke coming out of the AC duct in Coach no B6, Berth no 62. He immediately pulled the alarm chain & stopped the train and put out the smoke using a fire extinguisher. A close examination revealed the cause to be a lighted cigarette. His alertness and sharp thinking helped avert a big mishap.

Mahesh Talwar, Track Maintainer, Pune, Pune division, while on duty on 07th July 2025, noticed that the belt holding the steel rolls loaded on the 7th wagon from the engine of a passing goods train was broken. He immediately informed all concerned and his alertness helped avert a potential mishap.

Lingraj Kande, Station Manager, Dudhani, Solapur division, on 28th June 2025, during exchange of signals with a passing goods train, noticed that the handle rod of the 14th wagon from the engine is hanging down. He immediately informed all concerned and the issue was sorted at the next station. His alertness and sharp thinking helped avert a possible mishap.

Lalit Kumar, Pointsman, Sawalgi, Solapur division, on 10th June 2025, during exchange of signals with Train no 11302 Udyan Express , noticed that 2 bolts from the axle box cover of Coach no B2 had come out and the box was open. He immediately informed all concerned and his alertness helped avert a potential mishap.

Shubham Bhoyaar, Technician (C&W), Wadi, Solapur division, on 09th June 2025, during examination of a goods train in the yard, noticed the CBC yoke front follower plate of a wagon in broken condition. The wagon was marked sick and a possible mishap was averted due to his close monitoring skills.

Pradeep Barde, Loco Pilot, Bhusaval, Bhusaval division, while on duty on 11th June 2025, on Train no 11025 Pune-Amravati Express, noticed that a tree has falled down on the tracks due to storm. He immediately applied emergency brakes, stopped the train and shifted the fallen tree with the help of some passengers. The train proceeded after observing all safety precautions. His alertness and sharp thinking helped avert a possible mishap.

Mangesh Ramteke, Track Maintainer, Badnera, Bhusaval division, while on duty on 02nd July 2025, noticed a rail fracture at Kms 662/11-12. He immediately protected the track and informed all concerned and thus helped in averting a potential mishap.
