During Operation Sindoor, India punished Pakistan as the Indian Air Force attacked its 11 airbases and caused extensive damage to them.
New Delhi: If the need arises to destroy the nuclear weapons of Pakistan, how will India accomplish this mission? America has shown the perfect way to do this in the 12-day war between Israel and Iran. The US Air Force’s B-2 Spirit stealth bomber jets dropped 14000 kg bunker buster bombs on Iran’s three nuclear bases, Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan and destroyed them. Due to the bunker buster bomb attack, Iran’s nuclear programme has been set back by several years.
What is the way to counter Pakistan’s nuclear threat?
The leaders of Pakistan often threaten nuclear attack. Imagine if such a situation arises that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons and its bases have to be destroyed to establish peace in the region, what will India do? The US attack on Iran’s nuclear bases has also shown India the way. Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has started working on developing a bunker buster system. India will also soon have an ultra-modern and one of the most lethal and effective bunker buster systems in the world. No timeline has been given, but it is expected that this system will be developed soon.
What happened during Operation Sindoor?
India shares its border with Pakistan in the west and China in the east and north and both China and Pakistan are nuclear weapon-rich countries. During Operation Sindoor, India punished Pakistan as the Indian Air Force attacked its 11 airbases and caused extensive damage to them. The strategically important Noor Khan airbase was also targeted. Pakistan’s nuclear base is at Kirana Hills, a short distance from this airbase. It is said that Pakistan has hidden its stockpile of nuclear weapons at underground facilities, so the attack on Noor Khan airbase shook the foundations of the Pakistan government and army.
India felt the lack of bunker buster system very badly but now work has started to overcome this deficiency.
DRDO’s Bunker Buster Project
In view of the global environment, India has now started working vigorously towards developing a bunker buster system. DRDO is developing a bunker buster missile system. For this, the intercontinental ballistic missile Agni-5 is being modified. Let us tell you that Agni-5 is a hypersonic ballistic missile capable of hitting a distance of more than 5500 kilometers. Reports say that DRDO is now developing a bunker buster missile version of Agni-5 missile. Under this, while its range will be reduced on one hand, the capacity of the conventional warhead payload will be increased manifold, so that sufficient amount of ordnance is available to destroy the underground targets.
What is speculated capacity of Indian bunker buster?
According to the information, the bunker buster missile version of Agni-5 will be able to penetrate 80 to 100 meters inside the ground and strike. This means that military bases or nuclear weapons depots located 80 to 100 meters inside the ground can be destroyed. Agni-5 bunker buster missile will be able to move towards the target and destroy it at a hypersonic speed of 8 to 24 Mach. In this way, the bunker buster version of Agni-5 will wreak havoc on the enemies at a speed of 9878 to 24696 kilometers per hour. Agni-5 bunker buster missile is capable of carrying 7500 to 8000 payloads (capacity to carry weapons). Due to the high payload, its range will be reduced to 2500 kilometers, so that it can reach the target and destroy the target.
