In a major development, the Noida Police have arrested the brother-in-law of the deceased woman, Nikki Bhati, in connection with the alleged dowry death case. Rohit Bhati, Nikki Bhati’s brother-in-law, is the third person to be taken into custody in the case so far. Earlier on Sunday, the victim’s mother-in-law was arrested in connection with the alleged dowry death case. Vipin Bhati, husband of 26-year-old Nikki, was also arrested on Saturday.

The matter came to light on Thursday night after Fortis Hospital informed the police that a woman had been admitted with severe burn injuries. Doctors at Fortis referred her to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital due to her critical condition. However, as per the IANS report, she died on the way before receiving further treatment.
According to the news agency ANI report, Nikki’s husband, Vipin Bhati, was shot in the leg during a police encounter and was admitted to a hospital for treatment. The man accused of setting his wife on fire, who later succumbed to her injuries, was later brought to a hospital in Greater Noida for treatment after being shot in the leg during an encounter with Uttar Pradesh police. At present, Vipin Bhati has been sent to judicial custody of 14 days.

Denying all the allegations, Bhati told news agency ANI from his hospital bed, “I did not kill her. She died on her own.” When asked about the accusations of physical assault, he stated, “Husband and wife often have fights, it is very common…”
