New Delhi: Karenjit Kaur Vohra, better known as Sunny Leone, is one person who is well-known across the length and breadth of the entertainment industry as well as among the masses.
Sunny Leone has built her own brand and is earning a smart amount of money by different ventures.
Recently, her name started doing the rounds in the corridors of power in the Chhattisgarh state when a case of online fraud came to light.
Actually, the Chhattisgarh government is running Mahatari Vandan Yojana scheme for the benefit of married women in the state.
In this peculiar case, a man has reportedly been receiving Rs 1,000 monthly using Sunny Leone’s name. The man is identified as Virendra Joshi who is accused of opening and managing this account.
A case has been filed against him and officials responsible for verifying beneficiaries of the scheme are also being investigated.
The payments were made under the state government’s Mahtari Vandana Yojana scheme, reports The Indian Express which added that the fraud came to light after a check of the Mahtari Vandana Yojana website filtered out information about a recipient named Sunny Leone and her spouse Jonnny Sins, an American adult film performer, director, and YouTuber.
During checking, one of the files mentioned the beneficiary’s name as “Sunny Leone” and her husband’s name was listed as “Jonny Sins.”
The report further stated that the Talur sector of the Bastar district accepted the application at the Anganwadi level and it was verified by the Anganwadi and another supervisor mentioned in the file. Additionally, it indicates that the beneficiary has been receiving the money for 10 months, from March to December.
“We are looking into the matter,” said Bastar collector Haris S.
According to a top Bastar police official, if the district administration receives any complaints, action will be taken.
The case gained more traction after Deepak Baij, the head of the state Congress, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using the plan to advantage its supporters in a social media post.
Deepak Baij posted a video on X which says: “सन्नी लियोन के नाम से भाजपा के चहेतों को जा रहा महतारी वंदन का पैसा। (Mahtari Vandan money is going to BJP’s favourites in the name of Sunny Leone.)”
