Navi Mumbai: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has recorded a 15% increase in online taxpayers following the launch of its revamped property tax payment system. The new system, introduced under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, aims to simplify and accelerate the tax payment process using advanced technology.
The upgraded system offers multiple digital payment options, including net banking, UPI, QR codes, and digital wallets, allowing citizens to pay their taxes conveniently from their homes or offices.
“This shift has significantly reduced the need for in-person visits to municipal offices, making property tax payments easier than ever,” said NMMC officer.
To further improve accessibility, Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) will be integrated within the next 10 to 12 days. Once operational, this system will enable taxpayers to make payments directly through major banks, payment apps, and digital platforms, ensuring a 24×7 payment facility.
Backed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), BBPS will provide secure and faster transactions, with expectations of boosting online tax payments by another 15 to 20%.
The idea is to eliminate issues from the previous system and ensuring a seamless experience for taxpayers. “The upgraded platform is designed to save residents time and effort, encouraging a shift to digital transactions,” the officer added.
Additionally, NMMC has introduced an amnesty scheme offering a 50% waiver on late payment penalties for property tax defaulters. “Residents are urged to take advantage of this scheme by clearing their dues before March 31, midnight, as announced by civic Commissioner,” the officer said.
