Mumbai: In a tragic incident in Virar West near Mumbai, a family of three was found dead in their rented apartment in Bolinj on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as a 52-year-old man, his 42-year-old wife, who was battling neck cancer and their five-year-old daughter with special needs. The grim discovery was made by the couple’s 11-year-old son, who had been away from home.
According to reports quoting Bolinj police, the man, who was unemployed, is suspected of killing his wife and daughter before taking his own life. The family had been living in a fifth-floor apartment in Global City, Virar West, for the past two years.
Financial Struggles Led To Horrific Crime
Preliminary investigations suggest financial struggles were at the root of the tragedy. Despite undergoing chemotherapy, the wife was the primary breadwinner, offering private tuition to support the household. Neighbours and relatives mentioned that the burden of medical expenses and the responsibility of caring for their daughter, who had a hearing impairment, had impacted the man’s mental health. Frequent arguments over financial matters reportedly added to his distress.
Details Of The Incident
The incident likely occurred on Tuesday while the couple’s son was at school. When he returned home around 4 pm, he received no response after knocking on the door. Assuming his parents were at the hospital, he went to a friend’s house. Later, accompanied by his friend’s mother, he tried again but still got no answer. With his parents’ phones also unanswered, he spent the night at his friend’s place.
According to a Hindustan Times report, when the boy returned home the next day around 5 pm, he found the police at the scene. Neighbours had called them after noticing a foul smell coming from the flat. Inside, he discovered his father’s body, while his mother and sister lay lifeless on the floor.
Inspector Prakash Sawant of Bolinj police confirmed that the bodies have been sent to JJ Hospital in Mumbai for postmortem to determine the exact causes of death. Authorities are also examining the apartment and the wife’s laptop for a possible suicide note.
11-Yr-Old Boy Handed Over To Child Welfare Committee
The boy has been taken into custody by the police and handed over to the Child Welfare Committee, as no immediate relatives were available to care for him.
Investigations revealed that the family originally hailed from Karnataka and had previously resided in Charkop, Kandivali, before moving to Virar. The man’s brother informed the police that the family’s financial condition had worsened after the wife’s cancer diagnosis, contributing to the husband’s mental anguish.
