On Wednesday, 25th February, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath arrived in Tokyo for a two-day visit to Japan, aiming to attract investment and boost industrial development in Uttar Pradesh. Soon after arriving, the Chief Minister posted a message on X, greeting Japan as the “innovative land of the rising sun” and sending greetings from the land of Lord Shri Ram. The UP CM is visiting Japan to attend the Uttar Pradesh Investment Roadshow in Tokyo.

On his arrival in Japan’s capital Tokyo, the Chief Minister was accorded a ceremonial welcome. He was received by Junichi Ishidera, Vice Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture. India’s Ambassador to Japan, Nagma M. Malik, and members of the Indian community were also present.

At the Uttar Pradesh Investment Roadshow, Yogi Adityanath held various meetings with top Japanese business leaders to explore partnerships and bring new investment opportunities to the state.

One of his key interactions was with Kazuki Shimizu, Managing Officer and Chief Operating Officer of the Infrastructure Projects Business Unit at Mitsui & Co., along with senior members of the company.

The discussions focused on encouraging the company to look at investment possibilities in Uttar Pradesh, especially in sectors such as renewable energy, ICT, semiconductors and data centres, which are linked to the state’s fast-growing industrial expansion.

The Chief Minister said the talks also covered cooperation in infrastructure development, logistics networks and industrial projects that could help strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s growth corridors and connect the state more effectively with global supply chains. Officials described the meeting as positive and forward-looking, highlighting growing India-Japan economic cooperation.

Later in Tokyo, Yogi Adityanath met Shigeki Tanabe, Senior Managing Executive Officer and Executive General Manager of the Sales Management Division at Konoike Transport Co. Ltd. During the meeting, discussions were held on expanding the company’s operations in Uttar Pradesh through logistics parks, warehousing facilities and multimodal transport infrastructure.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasised that the geographical and industrial landscape of Uttar Pradesh now presents exceptional opportunities for investors. He said that the state is directly connected to the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) network, which ensures faster and more cost-competitive freight movement, and offers great potential for export-oriented industries and investors connected to the global supply chain.

The Chief Minister also invited the company to explore opportunities in medical devices manufacturing, making use of the Dedicated Freight Corridor and the Medical Devices Park being developed in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region. He said that this project provides a highly conducive ecosystem for Japanese companies. With modern infrastructure, excellent connectivity, policy support, and a single-window clearance system, this area is becoming an ideal destination for high-value manufacturing, the CM added.

CM Yogi Adityanath next held a meeting with ISHIGURO Norihiko, Chairman and CEO of Japan External Trade Organization. Norihiko noted that Japanese companies in India are keen to expand their activities in view of the excellent investment climate in the country, and acknowledged Uttar Pradesh as a strong growth engine driven by expanding infrastructure and industrial capacity. The CM reaffirmed Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to robust law and order, a substantial land bank, fast track clearances and an investor-friendly policy framework, further deepening India–Japan industrial partnerships.

As part of the visit, Yogi Adityanath is also scheduled to experience Japan’s advanced Maglev train technology by undertaking a nearly 100-kilometre ride. Unlike conventional trains, the Maglev runs using magnetic technology and floats above the track, allowing it to achieve speeds of up to 600 kilometres per hour.

The visit is expected to include several more interactions with industry representatives as Uttar Pradesh looks to deepen bilateral cooperation with Japan and bring global investment into the state’s growing industrial ecosystem.
