Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to undertake a 2-day visit to Israel starting on Wednesday (25th February) to boost defence and trade relations between India and Israel. This is going to be PM Modi’s second visit to the country in nine years.
PM Modi’s last visit to Israel was in July 2017, after which the bilateral cooperation between the two countries significantly elevated. In addition to the strong ties between the two countries, PM Modi and PM Netanyahu also share a strong bond of friendship. This is evident from the fact that, in a departure from the protocol, PM Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, will receive PM Modi at Ben Gurion Airport. This will be followed by a brief one-to-one meeting between PM Modi and PM Netanyahu, after which PM Modi will head to Jerusalem.

In Jerusalem, PM Modi will meet members of the Indian diaspora and then visit the Knesset (Israeli Parliament). At the Knesset, PM Modi will address the Israeli lawmakers, which is rare for a global leader, and only chosen world leaders are given the opportunity. PM Modi will also attend an exhibition on Wednesday, which will be attended by top Israeli executives. In the exhibition, Israel will demonstrate its technological advancement. In the evening, PM Modi will attend a private dinner hosted by PM Netanyahu.
Last night, in PM Modi’s honour, the Knesset building was decorated with the colours of the Indian flag. Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana had posted the image on X.

The next morning, on Thursday (26th February), PM Modi will pay tribute to the victims of the Holocaust at Yad Vashem, after which he will meet the Israeli President, Isaac Herzog. The visit will involve the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoU), with emphasis on cooperation in defence cooperation, and disruptive technologies such as AI, quantum and cyber.
“This visit will reaffirm the deep and long-standing strategic partnership between the two countries and will present an opportunity to review the common challenges as well as realign efforts towards achieving their shared vision for a robust partnership between two resilient democracies,” said the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
Ahead of PM Modi’s visit to Israel, PM Netanyahu proposed a geopolitical alliance, which he called a “hexagon of alliances”. A statement released by Netanyahu on 22nd February said that India will be a core partner, alongside Israel, Greece and Cyprus. Arab, African and Asian countries are also expected to be part of the framework.
