Many powerful names have emerged in the recently released Epstein Files related to Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender. The documents have detailed multiple email exchanges between former Norwegian Prime Minister, Chair of the Nobel Committee and Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland and Jeffrey Epstein. The US Department of Justice website Epstein Files library shows around 2,262 results for Thorbjorn Jagland.

Although Jagland has not been directly accused of sex offences, and the current Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Store, calls Jagland’s contact with Epstein ‘poor judgment’, the frequency of the interaction and meetings between Jeffrey Epstein and Thorbjorn Jagland have sparked outrage.

In one of the emails Jagland wrote to Epstein from 9 January 2013, the former Norwegian Prime Minister wrote, “By the way, Hanne and I have talked about coming back to somewhere in the Caribbean with my two sons during eastern to celebrate her 60th birthday (I can’t keep it going only with young women as you know).”

Reports say that Jagland may have used Epstein’s services, including a medical visit that Epstein is allegedly arranged and paid for, for Jagland in 2012. Several other disclosed files suggest that Epstein may have helped Bill Gates with medical assistance after he allegedly contracted a sexually transmitted disease. It was reported that Epstein and Gates met with Nobel Committee chair Thorbjørn Jagland at his residence in Strasbourg, France, in March 2013 to discuss the Nobel Prize.

In another email, sent by one Cecile de Jongh, reads, “I spoke to Jagland about whether he still wants the hotel, and he said that he was waiting to hear back from Jagland. He said that Jagland want to stay on the island. Am I to take from your email that Jagladn et al will be guests on the island?”

Notably, Jagland was the Chairman of the Nobel Committee from 2009 to 2015, and he oversaw the controversial Nobel Peace Prize Award to then American President Barack Obama. The former Norwegian Prime Minister was also the first in history to be demoted from the position.

A manuscript in the files released by the US DoJ states, “hat evening, in the Epstein dining room (he seems rarely to use the rest of the house’s 50,000 square feet), there is a small cocktail party, which includes the former Prime Minister of Australian, Kevin Rudd, and Thorbjørn Jagland, the head of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, who offers an affable, but generally scathing, critique of U.S. diplomacy (and a brief defense of Obama’s Peace Prize award) and to whom Epstein offers a ride back to Europe on his jet.”

In an exchange between Epstein and Jagland in June 2016, the latter expressed his wish to settleonn Epstein’s island if Donald Trump won the American presidential election.

“You must be a very busy man. Hope to see you soon,” Epstein wrote. Jagland responded: “Yes, terrible times. If Trump wins in the US, I’ll settle on your island. Before that, I’ll be in NY in September. A lot of things to talk about.” In response, Epstein said, “You can settle even if John Kerry wins /.”

Now, demands for a thorough investigation into Thorbjorn are being raised in Norway, in addition to calls for his resignation from membership of the Norwegian Labour Party.
