Railway Budget 2025 LIVE: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present her record 8th consecutive budget today at 11:00 am in the Lok Sabha.
Railway Budget 2025 LIVE Updates: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday arrived at the North Block, which houses the Ministry of Finance, ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget 2025. She is set to present her record 8th consecutive budget today at 11:00 am in the Lok Sabha. The budget speech will outline the government’s fiscal policies, revenue and expenditure proposals, taxation reforms, and other significant announcements.
The upcoming Union Budget for 2025-26 is expected to focus more on the railways sector than highways, according to a report by Nuvama. This marks a significant shift in infrastructure priorities, with railways likely to receive increased budgetary allocations. In the previous financial year (FY24), the highways sector received an allocation of Rs 2.70 lakh crore. However, the report highlighted that the forthcoming budget is set to lean more in favour of railways, which is gradually receiving allocations at par with highways.
Since 2016, the Railway Budget has been integrated into the general Budget, and this year, key updates regarding Indian Railways, including funding allocations and major project developments, will be announced in Sitharaman’s Budget speech.
The Railway Budget 2025 is likely to introduce plans for new, advanced trains, including the Vande Bharat sleeper, Vande Metro, bullet trains, and more. As per the media reports, the increased budget allocation is expected to focus on track expansion, modernising infrastructure, and procuring essential equipment such as locomotives, coaches, and wagons.
