Pakistan comments on Arunachal Pradesh, declares 'support' for China on territorial matters

On 5th December, the foreign ministry of Pakistan issued a statement supporting China in the latter’s illegitimate claim over India’s Arunachal Pradesh. The Pakistan Army-controlled government said that it reiterates its “consistent support for China on matters of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“On media question seeking Pakistan’s response to the statements made by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Zangnan (Arunachal Pradesh) and statements by India as well as media commentary on this matter, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tahir Andrabi stated the following: We have taken note of the remarks made by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Pakistan reiterates its consistent support for China on matters concerning its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the statement reads.

This comes days after China made a delusional claim that the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh is a Chinese territory named ‘Zangnan’, which means “Southern Tibet”.  It all started over an Indian woman from Arunachal Pradesh being allegedly harassed at the Shanghai Pudong Airport, due to China’s delusional territorial claims over India’s easternmost state.

In a strong rebuttal to China’s claim, the Indian government said that Arunachal Pradesh is an “integral and inalienable part of India.” The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that no amount of denial by the Chinese government will change the indisputable reality.

“We have seen statements made by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the arbitrary detention of an Indian citizen from Arunachal Pradesh, who was holding a valid passport and was transiting through Shanghai International Airport on her onward travel to Japan. Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inalienable part of India, and this is a self-evident fact. No amount of denial by the Chinese side is going to change this indisputable reality,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.

It is amusing that Pakistan, which recently surrendered its namesake sovereignty to madarsa-bred self-appointed Field Marshal Asim Munir, and has its territorial integrity under constant threat from Baloch rebels and TTP militants, has the audacity to support China’s preposterous territorial claims about an Indian state.

Pakistan commenting on Arunachal Pradesh out of nowhere is not entirely surprising. It seems that after getting a thrashing at the hands of Indian armed forces in May, Pakistan is venting out its frustration over Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s remarks about Sindh becoming a part of India again one day and its undeniable civilisational connect with India.

Apparently, Pakistan is sending out a message to India that if New Delhi lays any claim over Sindh or any province under Pakistani control, Islamabad will make similar claims or back those of China about Indian states, no matter how illogical and ridiculous it may be.
