‘Raped 4 times by sub-inspector… ‘: Woman doctor dies by suicide in Maharashtra’s Satara district, writes suicide note on hand

A woman doctor working at a district hospital in Satara, Maharashtra, died by suicide, and her final note has revealed shocking details. In a message written on her hand, she accused a police sub-inspector (SI) named Gopal Badne of raping her four times over a period of five months. She also said that his mental and physical harassment forced her to take the extreme step. The doctor was working as a medical officer at the Phaltan sub-district hospital. Her death on Thursday night has led to a major political controversy in the state. Following the allegations, the accused officer has been suspended.

Apart from the note found on her palm, the victim had earlier written a letter to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Phaltan on June 19, complaining about harassment by three officers — SI Gopal Badne, Sub-Divisional Police Inspector Patil, and Assistant Police Inspector Ladputre.

In that letter, she mentioned she was under severe mental stress and urged that the matter be properly investigated and strict action be taken against the guilty officers.

Satara District Police have registered a case against PSI Gopal Badane and Bankar, under charges of rape and abetment to suicide. The accused PSI has been suspended from duty with immediate effect. Police have launched an Investigation into the case,  Satara District SP Tushar Doshi told news agency ANI.
